The Design of Halloween Horror Flicks: Signature Style

Posted in Design

Here at our web design company, we are constantly drawing design inspiration from artists who have a distinctive signature style. A website created with a distinct style will distinguish your web presence from the masses of websites, just like a logo associates your brand to the consumer in advertising. For this Halloween, of course, we started thinking about the influential images that haunt us and who creates them.

Mastermind director Tim Burton has one of the most recognizable styles in the industry whether he’s working in comedy, drama, horror or even musical. His clearly visible style in each movie could be seen as limiting, but we see it as a matter of self-promotion and marketing. His mark on a movie is hard to miss, even if it’s animated! Burton is a premium example of how design or style can influence and enhance your marketing strategy.

Sleepy Hollow, 1999

Burton’s aesthetic can be characterized by his movies’ moody darkness and fantastical details. In his perspective, everything in our world is just a bit more sinister and twisted. Comedy becomes blacker and borders on frightening in his films– drama becomes more surprising and complex.

Even outside of his usual genre or buried beneath the well-known concept of a blockbuster franchise like Batman, Burton’s work is still recognizable. This is a boon for him, like it would be for the design endeavors of any company. Burton is skilled at what he does and is well known for it, but because of his wide range of films, he can’t be pigeonholed as a strictly suspense-thriller director. Similarly, your company’s web design should be instantly recognizable on any of your various pages or sites; at the same time, it shouldn’t alienate any type of consumer or isolate your appeal to a specific demographic.

Perhaps Burton is best known for his Halloweenish flicks The Nightmare Before Christmas and Edward Scissorhands, which is why we think of him on this October holiday. But because of his pronounced signature style, his work is visible no matter what form it comes in. Your company should demand the same quality of style from your web design company– it could make your web presence iconic instead of simply functional.

Less is More: Why Sometimes Less Traffic Means More Conversions

Posted in Business

One of the objectives of many online business development plans is simply to increase traffic to the company website - the reason being that if a lot of people view the website; the more likely it is that some of them will convert. However, that is not always the case. In many instances, it is better to drive a smaller number of targeted visitors to your site, as opposed to a larger amount of general traffic. After all, targeted visitors are more likely to be actively searching for what your business offers, and therefore more likely to become clients.
