I want to sell advertising on my website…

Being in the web design and search engine optimization industry for so many years, I here this question a lot. How do I sell advertisements on my website? This is a great question with a few simple answers. First, anyone can place advertisements on their website. There are plenty of affiliate programs on the web which allow you to simply copy and paste their code on your website in order to display advertisements.
How do you paid? Most advertisement companies pay by impression or by click. An impression occurs each time a visitor opens and views the page the advertisement is on. Generally advertisers only pay a few pennies per impression, so unless you are getting some serious traffic or have multiple ads on multiple websites it’s very hard to make decent money.
Pay-per-click is a very popular but harder to convert. You do get paid more for clicks than impressions, however this requires a user to actually click on your advertisement as opposed to just viewing the page. My advice is to make those advertisements look like the rest of the content on the page. People tend to stay away from bright, flashy signs that say “Click Me”.
Try Google Adsense, it’s easy. https://www.google.com/adsense/login/en_US/
People often ask me if they can sell monthly advertisement space on their website. The answer is yes, but your gonna need a lot of traffic in order to convince someone to pay you a monthly fee. Get a good traffic reporter and focus on getting your website high in the search engines. If your on page one for a major key phrase, put an ad on your site that says, “Post Your ad Here”. Eventually someone will call. If your unsure what to charge, here’s a hint. Find out how many unique visitors you get each day. What ever that number equals, charge them that many dollars per month. So if you get 250 unique visitors per day, then charge them $250 per month. I highly suggest sticking to monthly payments. They are very common and great way to increase your residual income.
