Last week this Chicago web design company blogger was looking for a customer service email or phone number for a particular company - I had an issue with a product of theirs that was not particularly urgent; however, it did need to be fixed and my problem was something a customer service could easily handle. So of course, I went online to find company website and locate contact info.
First of all, the company didn’t even rank in the top spot for their own name - which is basic search engine optimization and unless your business name is an incredibly common one (and is that really a good idea anyways?), there is no reason you shouldn’t hold the top spot for your own name.
More importantly, their website was not functioning properly and only a placeholder page was up, telling users that the site was not available and to check back later. However, there was no alternate contact information like a phone number or address, and furthermore, when is “later”? Tomorrow, next week, etc. Any good web design company should know that even when the rest of the site isn’t working properly, ensuring that contact information is still up should be a priority.
It has been a week and that company’s website is still down - not only are they unavailable to the customers they currently have, they are missing out on potential new ones.
