Real Estate & The Importance of Great Web Design

Posted on July 22nd, 2008

There are millions of real estate websites and real estate blogs on the web, so standing out from the crowd is difficult to say the least.  What’s a real estate agent to do?  First of all, any real estate agent or real estate firm that wants to differentiate themselves on the web needs to find a web design company that understands the unique challenges of real estate web design.

Second, real estate agencies must consider search engine optimization and search engine marketing.  Ideally, the web design agency contracted to create the original website should be familiar with SEO, or even have a SEO and internet marketing division, like our web design company.  After all, the whole point of the vast majority (if not all) real estate websites is to convert visitors to clients and eventually sell properties.

Furthermore, the most important aspect of any real estate website is the listings.  They should be picture heavy and describe the properties in detail, because that is what people come to the site for - they want to see exactly what kind of place they can afford in their desired neighborhood(s) and city.  All the other elements of the site comes second to the property listings and the property search that allows users to sort through the listings quickly and easily.

The next most important part of a real estate website is contact information; it seems obvious but the site should offer visitors multiple ways (email, phone, street address) to reach an agent.  Then comes a blog and articles about the neighborhoods and properties the real estate firm deals with - it should be updated regularly (search engines reward websites that always feature fresh relevant content, after all) and contain information about new properties, describe the benefits of living in the various neighborhoods that the properties are located in, and offer press releases and other major news.

Even if all these elements are in place, however, great real estate web design should be clean, simple, and easy to navigate in order to reflect your firm positively online, because in the end, usability is what will make the difference in terms of converting visitors into clients.  Working with a web design company that understands the importance of both creativity and usability is the key to building a fantastic real estate website.
