By KellyAugust 25th, 20090

If anyone saw the movie Inglorious Bastards this weekend, when you left the theater did you tweet about it? Hollywood is realizing that one of the biggest social media sites, Twitter is really effecting how well a movie is going to do at the box office. This weekend Inglorious Bastards made 37.6 million and is currently number #1 at the box office. Tweeters tweeted all weekend about how great of an action movie Inglorious Bastards is and tweeted and re-tweeted their approval to their friends and followers spreading their opinions instantly to thousands of users. With over 6 million users 0n Twitter and 80% of its user updating through mobile devices (emarketer.com, 2009) it’s not surprising how quickly information can spreadĀ  throughout Twitter, and in this case affecting the box office.

Inglorious Bastards wasn’t the only movie affected by Twitter, becoming clear that District 9 had an increased number of ticket sales because of the positive tweats, although it had more of a negative effect on the movie Bruno.
